Creating A To-Do List When You’re not Sure What You Should Be Working On
Good morning. I had a dilemma this morning. I’m usually pretty good at writing my to-do lists at night and it usually flows pretty well from whatever I was working on that day. Yesterday afternoon I wasn’t feeling all that great again and took a nap. After that I never really went back to working on anything productive. The end result was I didn’t make a list and had no idea what I should be working on this morning.
Whenever that happens, I go back to the basics. To make any website work, we need to focus on three different things: Traffic, List and Offer. (You can read more about this concept here: Affiliate Marketing Tip – Focus on These Three Things).
Today that means I sat down and wrote each of those three things down. Then I filled in one or two things I could do around each concept. I focused on promoting Daily Affiliate Tasks since that’s my main goal at the moment.
Here’s my list for today and the remainder of this weekend (it’s supposed to be rainy and there’s lots of sports stuff on TV from what I hear ;) )
Traffic:
- Email DAT affiliates about new tools.
- Create some brandable reports.
- Write 5 DAT blog posts for next week.
List:
- Promote DAT in autoresponder messages that go out to existing customers.
- Promote DAT in at least 2 more lists.
- Set up a new Aweber list with a blog broadcast for the DAT blog.
Offer:
- Include text and image ads on both the DAT blog and here at Affiliate Treasure Chest.
Other than that I plan to work a little on a new content site I’m setting up. The main reason for creating it is to test a theory I have on getting recipes to rank well in the Google. I’ll blog about the results here over the coming weeks.
Don’t forget to read what Nicole is up to today at NicoleOnTheNet.com and leave a comment either here or there with your own to-do list.
Even though I haven’t been feeling to good the last couple of days, this week of sharing our to-do lists has been a great experience and I’m sure I got a lot more done than I would have otherwise.

Ok after following you and Nicole this week I can see why we aren’t getting much income. I have no to-do list and am as unorganized as they get!
It’s a wonder we have stayed hanging on in business for 12 years and it’s no wonder I’m burned out.
Of course it doesn’t help matters that I’m chronically ill so I need to take that into consideration. Thanks so much for sharing so we can see what you “really” do. :-)
Tawra
P.S.I wish there was an organizing pill I could take! :-)
I like the way you used the three tasks as an outline to create your to-do list. Very neat and clean and easy for you to follow.
Hi Tawra,
it does help to stay on top of things and to make sure I’m growing each of my sites. Give it a try for a few days. You may want to start with just 2 or 3 tasks per day.
Glad you found that helpful Edie. I keep having to remind myself to create my tasks around those three core principles (I get lazy and forget). Anytime I do my sites and my income grow.
Friday Night Update :
Keep in mind that the above list is for things I’d like to get done today and over the weekend.
So far, I’ve:
- Emailed my affiliates. I mentioned in that email that I’d be glad to do a short email interview. One person took action right away (very impressive) and sent me 3 questions just a few minutes later. I went ahead and answered them and sent them right back to her.
I also got a request for some cross promoting from another affiliate. Emailing back and forth with her about the details.
- Included ads for DAT on both the Daily Affiliate Task blog and here. Only took a few minutes to implement and is something I should have done the day I launched DAT.
- Wrote the Friday Freebie post here. I completely forgot about this when I was putting together my list this morning. Got it done and am sharing a great report.
- Other than that, I broke my blog, fixed it, stayed in touch with my VAs, went to the store and cooked a nice dinner (meatloaf, biscuits, salad, corn and brownies for dessert :) ) (My 8-year old helped).
Ready to call it a night and safe everything else for the weekend.
I’ll keep updating this blog post as I get things accomplished this weekend.
How about you? How’d you do today? Any work plans for the weekend?
I wrote today’s activities in yesterday’s blog. I have been so caught up in taking my MIL to doctors appointments and chemo/treatments that most of my days are taken up then I rush to get the emails and blogs read. I wasn’t able to yesterday because we took the whole day with the doctor and shopping. So today was catchup day.
