Simple Strategy For Affiliate Commissions Part Two
Ready for part two? If you’ve missed the first part of this Simple Strategy for Affiliate Commissions be sure to go back and read it.
To quickly recap, yesterday we chose a clickbank product to promote, started to do a little keyword research to make sure it’s a viable product and registered a domain that we then forwarded to our clickbank affiliate link.
My little test bunny for this project is http://www.cookrestaurantrecipes.com/
Now we’re not going to make any affiliate sales until we start driving some traffic to this domain. That’s exactly what we are going to start doing today.
Our first step is to write a few articles and submit them to high-ranking article directories. Our goal is to get these articles to rank in the Search Engines (like google, yahoo and msn / bing). Let me give you an example…
One of the keywords that comes up when I do some research using http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com is “copycat restaurant recipes”. It is searched about 19 times a day making it a decent keyword to write articles on. Next I went to google.com and searched for “copycat restaurant recipes” with the quotes around it. In the upper right hand corner of the screen you will see the results
Results 1 – 10 of about 17,300 for “copycat restaurant recipes“
This means that there are just a little over 17,000 pages out there that have this particular keyphrase (copycat restaurant recipes) on it in this particular order. That’s not a log of competition all things considered.
Next it’s time to sit down and brainstorm some article topics around this keyphrase. Here are a few ideas of the top of my head.
- How To Find Copycat Restaurant Recipes
- Top 7 Copycat Restaurant Recipes
- Top 3 Places To Find Your Favorite Copycat Restaurant Recipes
- Why Are Copycat Restaurant Recipes So Popular
- Copycat Restaurant Recipes – The Low Budget Alternative To Eating Out
Next it’s time to sit down and write an article on each of these topics. The topic is actually the title of the article. Do you notice how I worked the keyphrase in there? That’s done intentionally. The title of your article is a main part in ranking for a particular keyphrase so be sure to work it in there. After that just write naturally. I like to write articles that are between 350 and 500 words long.
At the end of the article you will put your resource box which is your chance to include your link to your new domain. For the articles above my resource box will look something like this:
Are you ready to jump in and cook your favorite restaurant recipe? Then visit http://www.cookrestaurantrecipes.com for a cookbook that includes some all-time favorites including Outback Steakhouse’s Coconut Shrimp and Olive Garden’s Chicken Marsala.
Now go write at least one of those articles. I’ll go write mine and we’ll meet back here ….
… got your article? Perfect.Let’s talk about what we’re going to do with it. The first thing I like to do is submit it to an article directory.
We want to submit it a high ranking article directly. Here’s a list that’s frequently updated.
Since I am quite well know by name in the cooking and recipe niche online, I’m going to use a pen name for any articles I’m submitting for this case study. This way there won’t be any bias when someone reads the article (and end up buying the ebook based on the fact that “Susanne Myers – The Hillbilly Housewife” recommended it). It will also make it easier for you to follow along and see exactly what I’m doing to promote this cookbook.
I had a little fun with this and came up with the name Marie-Claire Arceneau (pretty isn’t it? I just couldn’t help myself, I’ve always wanted a french name).
Since Ezinearticles.com doesn’t accept articles that promote an affiliate product, let’s focus on a few of the others first. I like goarticles.com because it is very simple to submit articles with them, so let’s start there. Submit your first article, then sit down and write another one and submit it to articlesbase.com.
Here’s my article on GoArticle.com
Why Are Copycat Restaurant Recipes So Popular?
My Article Base Article hasn’t been approved yet. I’ll come back later and update it with a link to the live article.
Then sign up for an account at Ehow.com and sit down and write an article with a title of “How To … ” These are usually shorter than the articles I usually write and shouldn’t take you very long at ll.
For example, “How To Find Great CopyCat Restaurant Recipes” or “How To Make Chicken Marsala Olive Garden Style”.
Here’s the article I wrote “How To Find Great Copycat Restaurant Recipes”
Submit that article as well and then sit back and relax. Tomorrow we’ll look how much traffic the articles are starting to generate.

P.S. Come back tomorrow for some more strategies.
P.P.S. No money spent on this today. It took about 10 minutes total to sign up for these three article sites and took a little over an hour to write the articles – your milage may very depending on how fast you write.

Hey Susanne
I love these two articles – very, very helpful!
I’ve only dabbled in affiliate marketing til now – but have never really “gone for it” as I kept putting it off in the “someday” pile. No more! :)
I l really enjoy your site, particularly these posts that provide step-by-step action lists of what to do. Very exciting to see someone who is already successful at this sharing such great ideas. Thank you!
BTW – how is this test going? Can’t wait to read an update – where can I find it?
I’ll have an update and some new strategies to test up in another day or so. Between your content challenge and the 100 articles I’m writing and my regular money making websites I’m running out of hours in the day.
Susanne
This is great stuff. Do you build a web site like this for others? I need help.
Jim
Thanks Jim, I’m glad you find it helpful.
No, I’m sorry, I do not build websites for others, but I do have some recommendations for you:
To install your blog and ongoing maintenance I like http://www.affiliatenichepacks.com/webtechteam
If you don’t have a lot of upkeep yet, (especially if this is your first website or blog), I recommend going with a designer. I’ve worked with Nola Cooper from http://www.classiccreationsdesign.com/ and Bridgett from http://thewpchef.com/ – Bridgett set up and customized this blog and AffiliateNichePacks.com for me.
Thanks, Susanne — great stuff!
I really appreciate how you break everything down into steps and how you keep your posts concise. I’m a blogger who likes to write short and sharp posts … and I never read posts that are 1000′s of word long. Who has THAT kind of time, right? :)
Just curious …
Have you ever submitted your fab articles to “Biznik” or “Ideamarketers” (Marnie Pehrson’s site)?
Here are some issues I’m confused about and I bet you’re going to giggle out loud, but here goes …
Do hosting companies allow you to host more than one domain at no extra charge?
Or is it that you can host a gazillion domains with them, if you want, but you pay let’s say $100/year to host each one?
And after you’ve chosen and registered a new domain name and you want to set up a blog/site, do you have to go to your cpanel and re-install WordPress each time so that you can select a theme. etc., for your new site?
As you can tell, I’m not tech savvy at all and, quite frankly, I really dislike the technical side of doing business online. I love the writing, engaging with my readers, networking with my peers, social media marketing, and building community — my strengths!
Tech stuff? Yuck.
Thanks for your help!
