Forwarding A Domain Will Allow You To Promote Affilate Products in Your Ezinearticles.com Articles

I spent some time on the Ezinearticle.com blog yesterday and made an interesting discovery. Everything I remember reading in their editorial guidelines said “NO Affiliate Links”.

As it turns out, there’s a way to get your articles published and promote an affiliate product in your by-line. Here’s how:

Register a domain and redirect it to your affiliate link.

This works out beautifully for our Simple Strategy for Affiliate Commissions Case Study. You may recall that we registered and forwarded a domain for this already.

Here’s what the Ezinearticle.com Editorial Guidelines say specifically.

EzineArticles.com Editorial Guidelines: (AFFILIATE PROGRAMS):

Affiliate links will be allowed if the link is a domain name you own which forward/redirects to the affiliate link from the top-level of the domain name. For example, it is permissible to forward to an affiliate link from:

http://your-company-name.com/

…but it would not be permissible to forward to an affiliate link from:

http://your-company-name.com/page.html

http://your-company-name.com/subdirectory/

http://your-company-name.com/subdirectory/page.html

http://sub-domain.your-company-name.com/

From Section 3 of the Editorial Guidelines

You may be wondering why this article directory seems so “anti-affiliate marketing”. To be honest, I was wondering about that. I only saw the “no affiliate links in your author resource box” notes within the article submission interface and to be honest, I was thinking this was just a pet peeve of Chris Knight – the owner. It was annoying , but what can you do eh?

Then I read his blog post “Our War With Affiliate Marketers” and things started to make sense. Reading this blog post, I realized that there are quite a few affilite marketers out there that use article directories to grab search engine rankings and link juice without providing much (or any) value with their articles. Their only goal is to get someone to click their affiliate link.

I’ve always treated my affiliate promotion the same way I promote my own products – providing good value and then making a product recmomendation when applicable. Sadly not everyone has this same work ethic and I can see article directories getting flooded with spammy spun articles that are all fluff.

So why the decision to allow writers to promote articles provided they have a redirected domain for them? Simple – with this one little rule, they are making sure to only attract serious affiliate marketers who are building an actual business. It’s an investment (though a small one) and it takes a little bit of work ot set up a domain and forward it. It shows you are seriuos about promoting this product and are in this for the long haul.

I’m excited about this for our case study as I mentioned previously. I’ll give you an update on it shortly along with my plans for this coming week.
